Obituary for Ruth Huff
Ruth Huff passed peacefully on February 18, 2021. She was born in Gardner, Colorado on September 6, 1932 to Fred and Lucille Waggoner.
Ruth grew up on the ranch in Gardner and spent many hours with her father tending to the cattle.
Ruth attended grade school in Gardner under the teaching of her Grandmother. She did 4-H for many years. During high school, she was proud to have shown registered Hereford heifers at the National Western Stock Show and played the flute for an Orchestra. Ruth graduated from Huerfano High School in 1950.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bradley Huff, on March 31, 1951. They welcomed a daughter, Sherry, in 1952 and a son Viron in 1953.
Ruth supported her friends by being a caretaker for their children. She spent most of her life being the sole bookkeeper for trucking companies.
Ruth served as a boarding house mother when all six of her grandchildren lived with her so they could attend La Veta High School. All the local kids knew her as “Grandma”. They would show up to savor Grandma’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. There was always a pile on the counter and a chest freezer full of Schwan’s ice cream treats.
Ruth’s greatest accomplishments are her six grandchildren and her thirteen great grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them and would not waste an opportunity to brag to anyone that would listen.
Ruth spent much of her time working with her hands. She had a very green thumb and enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. Over the years, she knitted Afghans and baby booties for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her parents, Fred and Lucille Waggoner and her husband Bradley Huff precede Ruth in death. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Gilbert, her daughter Sherry (Bob) Freese, son Viron (Randee Huff), grandchildren Nikki (Matthew) Cain, Dena (Jesse), Chad (Corrie) Freese, Tyler (Amber) Huff, Nace (Casey) Huff and Samantha (Trevor) Colvin. Her thirteen great grandchildren also survive her. Weston, Kersey, Kanon, and Briggston Huff (Tyler and Amber). Trindon, Holdyn, and Adleigh Huff (Nace and Casey). Jaelie and Taela Jaminet (Jesse and Dena). Bryce Cain (Matthew and Nikki). Cale and Cobie Freese (Chad and Corrie). River Colvin (Trevor and Samantha).
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held with close family and friends this summer. Arrangements by Boies-Ortega Funeral Home.
