Obituary for Michael James Abeyta

Michael James Abeyta left the bounds of this earth peacefully on January 18, 2023. His free spirit was released and is now embraced in celestial light and love.

He was born in Pueblo, CO on February 12, 1951 to Eufemia (Femie) and Felix Abeyta forever to be loved.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother Eufemia (Femie) Abeyta, father Felix Abeyta. His siblings Helen McManaway, Phillip Sandoval, Irene Garcia. His sister-in-law Sandy Sandoval.

He leaves behind brother-in-laws Pat McManaway, Rudy Garcia.

Along with his nieces and nephews who always said “He was the favorite uncle but meant so much more than just an uncle”.

Michael grew up in Walsenburg, CO. He graduated from Walsenburg High School May of 1969. He attended the University of Southern Colo in Pueblo, CO.

He went on to live in Boulder, Co and Colo Springs, CO having various job experiences. Michael then owned and operated his own hair salon in Walsenburg and had many loyal clients.

He enjoyed life to the fullest as is attested to by the many friends he made along his life’s journey.

He chose many paths of enrichment that brought him fulfillment and joy. He enjoyed art and music. He loved practicing Tai Chi and found profound peace through it. He was certified in Reiki and was a wonderful healer.

Michael was a gentle soul and will forever be remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff from Pikes Peak Hospice for the great care given to him in his final days.
A private family service is planned for a later date. Arrangements made by Boies-Ortega Funeral Home.
