Lon, mainly known in our community as “Otto,” was born in Pueblo, Colorado on June 14, 1937 and passed away September 24, 2020 at the Goemmer Butte Ranch in La Veta Colorado. As family puts it, “Lon was just tired and worn out.” Lon lived and worked on the family ranch all his life.
He graduated high school from La Veta and was a proud Redskin. He then went on and attended Arizona State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. Also, where he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Mae. He and Jacque were married for over fifty years until her death in 2011. They were both very active in the Republican Party. He loved to dance, ride horseback, gather cows, fix fence, clean ditch, drive his team of horses and anything that had to do with ranching. He was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, was on the Huerfano County Planning and Zoning Board and the La Veta School Board.
He was preceded in death by his father George Adolf Goemmer, mother, Jennie N. Goemmer, his wife Jacqueline Mae Goemmer and grandson Robert Adolf Goemmer.
Surviving relatives are brother, Curtis (Sherry) Goemmer, sons, Pete (Susan) Goemmer and Cole (Tammy) Goemmer; Grandson, Lon (Caramie) Goemmer, Step grandchildren, Lukas (Allison) Dearmin, Sara Dearmin; eight great grandchildren, Elizah, Landen, Jace, Lukas, Jaiden, Ella, Jaydra and Jett. He will be missed but always be in our hearts. Happy Trails to you, until we meet again.
