George H. Albright

George H. Albright, lifetime area rancher, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2020. He was 73.
George was born on November 26, 1946 in Cuchara, CO, to John W. and Zella Rae Albright.  He attended La Veta Schools through 10th grade and finished high school in Hooker, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Colorado for two years.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
George had an adventurous spirit and many interests. In addition to cattle ranching, at one time or another he was an EMT, ski instructor and patrolman, hunting outfitter, crewed on a sailing ship in the Caribbean, and was a thespian with the Spoon River Players.
His hobbies included water skiing, wine making, sporting clay shooting, and cross country trips on his Harley.
An avid big game hunter, George enjoyed multiple safaris to Africa and was a member of the National Rifle Association and Safari Club International.
George is survived by his son John (Renee) Albright of La Veta and grandchildren Ashley, Katherine and Loren Albright of the family home; a brother Loren (Jeanine) Albright of La Veta; a nephew Luke (Agnes) Albright of Los Angeles CA; nieces Audra Albright of Denver, CO and Kimberly (Chris) Eyhorn of Austin, TX; former wife Judy (Ron) Berg of Bastrop, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rae Albright.
There will be a graveside memorial on August 29 at 10:30 am at the La Veta Cemetery. Boies Ortega is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the La Veta EMTs.
