Obituary for Donna Soltis

Donna Sue Soltis was the youngest child of Paul and Susie Soltis. She was born on March 19, 1947, at Lamme Hospital in Walsenburg, CO. Her family moved to Walsen Camp and later to Walsenburg where she spent the rest of her life.
Donna attended Walsen Camp School, later graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1965. She was a member of St. Mary’s church. She worked at Santi Motor Company before having a long career at the Walsenburg Insurance Center (formerly Meyer Insurance and Insurance Office of America) where she served her community and mentored co-workers for 40 years, retiring in May 2020.
Donna bowled for the Huerfano World team at Crown Lanes. She kept score for golf tournaments at Walsenburg Golf Course. She was involved in local picnics for the Elks and KC’s. She grew and cared for beautiful flowers.
Donna was known for her cooking, making wonderful dishes and treats for regular meals, and every family event and holiday. She shared these with family, friends, and co-workers. She enjoyed a cold Miller, a CC and 7, and a Broncos game. Above all else, Donna was the caretaker of the family. She was the holder of all the recipes, photos, and keepsakes. She loved shopping, doing laundry, and was an avid watcher of her stories. She was at every family school event, birthday party, mass, graduation, sports event, baptism, and wedding.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Susie (Ritz) Soltis, her sister, Clara Jean (Ritz) Summers and beloved uncle Pete Ritz. She is survived by her brother James (Kathy) Soltis of Pueblo, CO and sister Patricia (Fred) Eccher of Walsenburg, CO.
Donna’s greatest joy was being “Auntie” to nieces, Brigette (David) Soltis-Vaughan of Omaha, NE; Shawna (Kevin Zinc) Soltis of Omaha, NE; Ginger (Anthony) Eccher-Ruiz of Pueblo, CO; Michele (Curtis II) Eccher-Stovall of Aurora, CO; Tammy (Fredric) Eccher-Salazar of Pueblo, CO; and Suzette (Tobias) Eccher-DeHerrera of Pueblo; great nieces and nephews; Jalen, Brittney, and Brooklyn Ruiz; Chanel, Major, Curtis III, and Akiya Stovall; Austin and Sergio Eccher-Salazar; Caden and Carter Brucks; Logan and Jaxon DeHerrera; and great-great nephews Kassius Eccher-Martinez and Andretti Cesario.
Donna took her place in Heaven on June 7, 2023. She will be laid to rest at the St. Mary’s South Cemetery. Memorial Services will be held July 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
