Obituary for Beatrice "Bea" Baca

On Friday, September 24, the Lord called home Beatrice Baca, 96, while she was home, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres (Andy), son Ralph, daughter, Rita (Gary) Hurtado and great-grandson, Andres Pacheco, and her parents, Henry and Cleofas Martinez. She is survived by her children, Viola (Dan) Pacheco, Don (Christine) Baca, Brenda Kidd and James (friend Nick Lyons) Baca, as well as grandchildren, Ericka (Scott) Abrams, Norman (Sarah) Pacheco, Paul Pacheco, Kristal Baca and Sean Baca. She was a faithful wife and loving mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother to Sierra, Gabriella, Exevair, Andres, Dahlia, Kayleigh and Bennett, and a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a great cook, baker and seamstress. She cherished most the time spent with family, especially on holidays and special occasions. She grew up in a large family and was the last surviving member of eight brothers and sisters, Tony, Pete and Dave Martinez, Mary Padilla, Jennie Cordova, Delcie Salazar and Carmel Martinez. Both family and friends knew her as a warm and friendly woman who was always willing to have a cup of coffee and share life stories about the people she treasured most – family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served the parish when she was younger. The family would like to offer special thanks to James, for the time he spent as her caregiver. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 9th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walsenburg. Join us for baked goods and coffee following the service at the family home at 715 West 8th Street. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Arrangements by Boies-Ortega Funeral Home.
